NBS: 2019 hog slaughtering at 544.19 mln heads and ending stocks at 310.41 mln heads

Pork production totaled 42.55 mln tonnes in 2019, down by 21.3%. Hog ending stocks were 310.41 mln heads, a year-on-year decline of 27.5%; and hog slaughtering was 544.19 heads, a year-on-year decline of 21.6%. This led to a 42.5% increase in pork price in 2019. But authoritative departments have released huge amount of meat products into the market, which has helped eased pork supply and demand. 

Meanwhile, beef production grew by 3.6% to 6.67 mln tonnes, mutton increased by 2.6% to 4.88 mln tonnes, poultry meat surged by 12.3% to 22.39 mln tonnes, egg production rose by 5.8% to 33.09 mln tonnes, and milk production went up by 4.1% to 32.01 mln tonnes. 

In 2019, grain production amounted to 663.84 mln tonnes, which was slight increase of 5.94 mln tonnes or 0.9% from previous year and also marked 5-year record above 650 mln tonnes. Among it, summer grain production grew by 2.0% to 141.6 mln tonnes, early rice production decreased by 8.1% to 26.27 mln tonnes and autumn grain production went up by 1.1% to 495.97 mln tonnes. 

In terms of products, wheat production increased by 1.6% to 133.59 tonnes, corn production grew by 1.4% to 260.77 mln tonnes, and soybean production surged by 13.3% to 18.1 mln tonnes.
